The lab has been awarded a collaborative UM1 grant from NIH’s BRAIN Initiative!

A massive congratulations to project lead, Dr Haining Zhong, and the rest of the project investigators—Drs Tianyi Mao, Isabelle Baconguis, Jun Ding, and Emad Tajkhorshid—on securing a massive UM1 grant from the BRAIN Initiative to optimize cAMP and PKA sensors for cell-specific dissection of neuronal circuits in vivo!

Project narrative:
Animal behaviors are regulated by neuromodulation, and defects in neuromodulation are associated with neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases. We aim to develop high-performance sensors for detecting the intracellular signaling activities of cAMP and protein kinase A induced by neuromodulators in their native habitat – the intact brains of living animals. These tools will enable future dissection of the neuromodulatory mechanisms underlying brain function and dysfunction.
